Trnava with kids
Trnava offers families with children far more than a walk through its historic centre. Climb the Town Tower, discover medieval city walls through an interactive game, enjoy a fairy-tale performance or spend an afternoon in parks and playgrounds. There is also a water park, a ropes course, indoor play centres and Spartak football matches. Here are our favourite places and activities for a family trip to Trnava in any weather.
Outdoors and free
Agátka, the Promenade, playgrounds, walks through the historic centre and seasonal open-air fairy-tale shows.
When it rains
Aquapark Trnava, Kinder Club, Šišidielko or a fairy-tale performance at Pracháreň Theatre.
For active children
Climbing the Town Tower, the Lanáč ropes course, a city treasure-hunt game or a Spartak football match.
The Town Tower and adventurous discoveries in Trnava
Start exploring Trnava with children right in the historic centre. The Town Tower offers views over old rooftops, church spires and the surrounding countryside. Children who prefer games to conventional sightseeing can discover the nearby medieval walls through an interactive quest.
Town Tower: 143 steps to a great view
The Renaissance Town Tower is one of Trnava’s landmarks. The observation deck is reached by 143 steps, making the climb a little adventure in itself. From the top, children can see Trinity Square, historic lanes and the skyline of a town nicknamed Little Rome for its many churches.

The climb is best for children comfortable with stairs. There is no lift, and the observation deck is not accessible with a stroller. Allow around 30 minutes for your visit. Current ticket prices, opening hours and other details are available in our guide to the Town Tower.
Mocný opasok: a treasure hunt along the city walls
You can also explore Trnava’s past through play. The interactive GPS game Mocný opasok takes families around the preserved medieval fortifications, with puzzles, challenges and stories from the Middle Ages along the way. All you need is an internet-connected phone.

At a child’s pace, the route takes about 60–90 minutes. The game is also available in English, making it suitable for international visitors. You do not have to complete every stop at once; you can resume the quest later.
Tip for families:
It is best to play Mocný opasok in dry weather. Charge your phone and turn on its sound before you start. Details and the game itself are available on the official Mocný opasok website.
Fairy tales, theatre and culture for children
You do not need to wait for a special event to take children to the theatre in Trnava. The city has its own theatre with fairy-tale productions, while summer performances regularly move outdoors onto the pedestrianised main street.
Pracháreň Municipal Theatre
The new Pracháreň Municipal Theatre opened in September 2026 in a renovated historic building on Radlinského Street. Much of its programme is dedicated to children, presenting familiar fairy tales in fresh adaptations. Productions include Puss in Boots, The Princess and the Pea, The Little Egg Goes Travelling and The Dog and the Cat.

The theatre is only a few minutes’ walk from Trinity Square, so you can easily combine a performance with a stroll through the centre. For the programme, age recommendations and tickets, visit the official Pracháreň Theatre website.
Open-air summer theatre on the pedestrian street
In summer, Hlavná Street becomes a small open-air stage. As part of Leto na korze (Summer on the Promenade), the space in front of the historic town hall hosts concerts, dance performances and fairy-tale theatre for children. Open-air shows are generally free, and you can stop by during an ordinary walk through the centre.
The programme changes each year, so check the current schedule of city cultural events before your visit.
The best parks, playgrounds and outdoor activities
You do not have to leave the centre to give children time outdoors. Trnava has pleasant parks and playgrounds for both short stops and longer afternoons. More active children can also try elevated obstacles at a ropes course.
Agátka: a pond, stream and wooden hill
The Agátka recreation area is one of Trnava’s most interesting outdoor places for families. Its artificial pond, stream and wooden hill create a setting quite different from an ordinary playground. There are also play structures and space to relax.

Agátka is particularly good for families who want to spend time outside without a fixed schedule. Children can play and explore while adults relax in pleasant surroundings. Keep children supervised near the water features.
Anton Bernolák Park: the Promenade and playground
The historic Promenade, officially Anton Bernolák Park, is one of Trnava’s most popular green spaces. It runs alongside the city walls and is suitable for stroller walks, resting in the shade and exploring the town at an easy pace.
Families will especially enjoy the southern part of the park, beyond Bernolák Gate towards the railway station, where there is a playground. The Promenade is also a convenient stop for visitors arriving by train and walking towards the historic centre.
Trnavský Lanáč: climbing and elevated obstacles
Children who enjoy movement and challenges can head to the Trnavský Lanáč ropes course at the Slávia municipal sports complex on Hajdóczyho Street. The site offers rope obstacles and climbing activities that test balance, agility and courage.
Check the age and height restrictions for individual activities before visiting. Operations are seasonal and weather-dependent. Current conditions are listed on the Trnavský Lanáč website.
Where can children have fun for free?
If you would rather not pay admission, visit Agátka, the Promenade playground or walk through the historic centre and along the city walls. In summer, add a free open-air fairy-tale performance.
Swimming with children: Aquapark Trnava and Kamenný mlyn
On hot days, cool off at an outdoor swimming area surrounded by nature. During colder months or bad weather, the year-round water park is a practical alternative. Each offers a different kind of family break.

Aquapark Trnava: water fun all year round
Aquapark Trnava on Rybníková Street is one of the best family activities regardless of season. Its water complex includes a children’s pool, relaxation pools, water attractions and slides. An outdoor swimming area is also available in summer.
Families with younger children benefit from child-friendly facilities and play areas. The water park also offers entertainment programmes on selected weekends, holidays and school breaks. Check attraction availability, admission prices and opening hours on the official Aquapark Trnava website.
Kamenný mlyn: summer swimming in nature
If you prefer spending time outdoors, visit the Kamenný mlyn recreation area on the outskirts of Trnava. There is a summer swimming pool with unheated water, large lawns and a relaxation zone. The grounds also include a playground, sports facilities and seasonal refreshments.
The swimming season usually runs from June to August, depending on weather conditions. The area can also be used for recreation outside the swimming season. Current operating information is published by the Trnava Municipal Property Administration.
What to do with children in Trnava when it rains?
A rainy day does not have to spoil a family trip. Besides Aquapark Trnava and fairy-tale performances at Pracháreň, you can visit indoor play centres offering climbing frames, slides, movement activities and play areas for younger children.
Kinder Club – City Arena
This large indoor playground at the City Arena shopping centre offers trampolines, slides, climbing equipment, play structures, a ball pool and a zone for little ones. Parents can relax in the café area.
Address: Dolné Bašty 1/A
Šišidielko Children’s World
This family entertainment centre on Vajanského Street is mainly for younger children, approximately one to eight years old. Parents can use the café overlooking the play area.
Address: Vajanského Street
Indoor play centres can be busy on rainy days and weekends. Check opening hours, private-party bookings and entry conditions before visiting.

Where to take children for a sweet treat
After a walk, theatre visit or afternoon at the playground, a sweet stop is welcome. Trnava has family-friendly cafés and chocolate shops for both children and adults. Here are two places in or near the historic centre.
Tri Šišky
A family centre and café in the municipal amphitheatre complex on Halenárska Street. Besides coffee and snacks, it organises activities for parents with young children, including movement classes and supervised play sessions.
Address: Halenárska 20
ChocoLoco
A chocolate shop and café on Hlavná Street, opposite the town hall. Its offerings include hot and chilled chocolate, pralines and other chocolate specialities. A convenient stop while exploring the historic centre.
Address: Hlavná 11
A Spartak Trnava football match as a family experience
Trnava has a strong football tradition, and a home match of FC Spartak Trnava can be one of the most memorable experiences for older children. The modern Anton Malatinský Stadium is in the city centre and forms part of the City Arena complex.
Spartak offers designated children’s sections and discounted tickets. Prices and conditions may change from season to season. Before buying, check the home fixtures, select a suitable stand and review the admission rules for children.

Match schedules, current ticket prices and admission information are available on the official FC Spartak Trnava website.
Unusual experiences: a hot-air balloon ride over Trnava
For a special experience with older children, consider a sightseeing flight in a hot-air balloon. Flights also depart from Trnava and the surrounding area, offering a completely different view of the landscape. Depending on weather conditions, you may see fields, nearby villages, the Little Carpathians and the city itself.
Balloon flights are more suitable for older children and must be booked in advance. Operators have their own age, height and safety requirements; some accept children from around eight years old. The date and take-off location depend on the weather.
Before booking:
Check the minimum age and height, whether an adult must accompany the child and the rescheduling policy in bad weather. Flights from Trnava are offered, for example, by LietamBalonom.sk.
Children’s events in Trnava throughout the year
Trnava’s family programme changes with the seasons. Throughout the year, the city hosts theatre performances, creative workshops, town celebrations, festivals and smaller themed events. Some last a single day; others are part of larger annual celebrations.
Traditional Trnava Fair
One of Trnava’s biggest recurring events. The historic centre fills with market stalls, craftspeople, food and entertainment. Rides and fairground attractions add to the atmosphere.
Advent in Trnava
Christmas markets with festive decorations in the historic centre, seasonal food and cultural events. A lovely opportunity to combine a visit to Trnava with a family Advent trip.
MiniTrnava
A summer children’s town where young visitors try different jobs, responsibilities and the workings of their own miniature city through play. It is especially good for children who enjoy taking part in group activities.
Summer on the Promenade
A regular summer cultural programme on Hlavná Street, often featuring free fairy-tale shows, concerts and other open-air performances.
Smaller family events and themed festivals
Besides major city events, Trnava regularly hosts smaller activities aimed at particular age groups or themes. One example is the autumn Straši Fest at the municipal amphitheatre, combining spooky fun, fairy-tale characters, competitions and creative activities for children.
We also cover smaller family events, local news and current happenings in our magazine. Find bigger recurring events and their programmes in our dedicated Events in Trnava.
Family day trips near Trnava: Smolenice Castle
If you have a full day or are staying longer, explore the surrounding area too. One of the loveliest destinations near the city is Smolenice Castle, about a 25-minute drive from Trnava.

The romantic castle stands on a wooded hill in the foothills of the Little Carpathians and looks like something from a fairy tale. Its towers are impressive even from outside. The surrounding area is great for walks, and castle tours are possible on selected dates. The interiors are not open to visitors continuously, so check visiting arrangements in advance.
Smolenice is not the only day-trip option near Trnava. Find more castles, historic houses, natural sights and water attractions in our guide to Day trips from Trnava.
Practical tips for visiting Trnava with children
How much time should you allow?
Half a day is enough for the Town Tower, a short walk through the centre and a stop in a park. Set aside a full day if you also want to visit the water park, an indoor play centre or complete the city game.
Trnava with a stroller
The pedestrian zone, city parks and most main streets in the centre are comfortable for stroller walks. However, the Town Tower observation deck is reached only by stairs and is not wheelchair-accessible.
Planning around the weather
In good weather, head to parks, playgrounds, Lanáč or the city quest. When it rains, visit Aquapark Trnava, indoor play centres or a performance at Pracháreň Theatre.
Public transport and parking
Both the railway and bus stations are within walking distance of the historic centre. Drivers can use municipal parking areas or shopping-centre car parks, subject to current conditions.
